We believe everyone deserves a chance to feel what it’s like to stand up on a wave.
That’s why we run free community surf events.
Free online booking, no cost, no experience needed. Just show up, pull on a warm wetsuit, grab a board and let our team take care of the rest.
Every event is fully staffed with ISA qualified instructors, and all equipment is provided. You’ll be warm in a premium 4/3 wetsuit and optional booties, so there’s no excuse not to give it a go.

A free morning at the beach, just for the wahine of Canterbury. Whether you’ve never set foot on a board or you’ve been curious about surfing for years, this is your day to give it a go in a fun, welcoming, women only environment.
Our female friendly sessions are led by our qualified instructors and designed to be relaxed, supportive and genuinely good fun. You’ll be warm, you’ll be looked after, and there’s a good chance you’ll be hooked.
- Sessions at 9.30am, 11.30am and 1.30pm
- 1.5 hours per session
- Open to women 16 and over
- All surfboards, premium 4/3 wetsuits and optional booties provided

Sumner Beach
YOUTH HAVE A GO SURF DAY
FREE | Ages 6-18 | Wednesday 30 September 2026 | Sumner Beach
We’re kicking off the 2026/27 season with a free surf day for Canterbury’s kids and teens. No cost, no experience needed, just show up ready to give it a go.
Sessions run all day at Sumner Beach, with groups formed by age so every participant surfs at the right level. Our ISA qualified instructors take care of everything from the water briefing to getting everyone standing up on a board.
- Sessions at 9.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm
- 1.5 hours per session
- Ages 6 to 18, grouped by age
- All surfboards, 4/3 wetsuits and booties provided
- Qualified instructors, fully supervised
